Scent of TriumphThis was the last book I read in 2012. I started it a couple of days before New Year’s Eve. I finished reading it on Dec 31. I simply couldn’t stop reading it, and tried to squeeze in reading time between all the preparations/celebrations. I hadn’t noticed I hadn’t reviewed this one, so here I go. It’s better late than never.

Gone Girl: a Novel is an unputdownable book. If you haven’t read it yet, I don’t want to spoil your fun. Let me just tell you that Gone Girl: A Novel really takes the phrase: “madly in love” to a whole other level.

Amy and Nick were madly in love with each other, emphasis on madly. Without giving it away, you are introduced to this young married couple and read about the “struggles” they face after sweet, beautiful Amy is mysteriously kidnapped.

Amy and Nick have traits with which every reader can bond with, up to a certain point. Some of their views about love are relatable.

To be kissed on the lips by your husband is the most decadent thing.

There’s a difference between really loving someone and loving the idea of her.

Love makes you want to be a better man. But maybe love, real love, also gives you permission to just be the man you are.

Friends see most of each other’s flaws. Spouses see every awful last bit.

BUT they have other traits that give you chills and keep you wondering what they will do next. They are two complex tortured souls.

This is a dark adult read. I don’t recommend this book not even for advanced reading teens. It touches sexual, psychological and violent topics that I don’t find fitting for young readers. As the user Carol posted on a GoodReads topic and I quote:

I don’t believe the story would be edifying for a young mind. There are so many BETTER choices!

Even though there are a few predictable things in this story, it has many different, crazy, somewhat confusing and sickly unexpected twists and turns that will keep you turning the pages. Read this one with an open mind or wait for the movie which will hit theaters in October this year. 😉
